I recently converted my 90 Nautique to electronic ignition with the pcm kit that inboard marine sells. I bypassed the resistor and changed the coil as the description states. it started fine on day one (right up). after the boat sat for a week it would just crank. so i checked the battery voltage and saw it was a little low (11.9), charegd it up and it started right up. so now i think, "great it just a low voltage trigger thing...time to replace my 7 year old battery". I put a brand new battery in (confirmed voltage at 12.6 prior to install) go to start and it just cranks.
its odd because, sometimes when i crank it and hold the ignition on start it makes no signals of firing...BUT if i release the key from start it will start? sounds like some sort of trigger issue to me...no time to go out and diagnoss what the issue is so i figured a post to see if anyone else has had this issue. i did do a search and found nothing similar
spark confirmed at the coil also.
also...if the boat wont start and i leave it sit with the engine box open for a few hours it will start....moisture effecting the ignition? the seal is in place on the dist. cap.
thx
