    Wire fish...

    Hey Everyone,

I didn't know if this goes here or in Stereo's, but just looking for advice on fishing speaker through the tower. It seems like the holes I drilled are pretty small, but I don't really want to drill bigger ones for fear that I would compromise the strength of the tower... any advice on fishing these cables PLEASE!!!?

It's killing me to stare at these speakers and not have sound coming through them...

    RE: Wire fish...

you can get a "fish wire" at Home Depot or similar store. It is a flat steel band so you can control it through the bends in the tower. Run it from the Speakers down to the bottom, tape the wires to the end of it, lube up the wires really good and pull them up to the speakers.

Be sure your holes are smooth so they don't cut the wire, especially if they are tight. If they are too tight you can drill another hole as opposed to drilling a larger hole. I ran a set of wires up each side of the tower to minimize hole size.

Great! Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of drilling my existing holes out larger, but in a sideways pattern, or in other words, sticking the drill in the existing hole and turning it sideways, so that the wire could access more easily. it's a pain for sure... I have a piece of ground wire from a house that I'm using right now... ARGH...

        Travis,

Are you using rubber grommets at the holes? What ga. wire? How about a wiremold/wrap of some sort? You may need a 3/4"dia or larger hole where you have a pair of wires, smaller when a single pair. Like mentioned about also deburr all the openings. I used 12ga solid electrical wire as a fish. It would take a pretty large hole to create a structural problem.

That's what I was wondering, and thanks Quinner.. I'm decent at building stuff, and I know how strong cylinders and tubes are, but I know when you take a chunck out of the side that it's "no es bueno"... I think it's probably a 1/8 inch hole as is, and I was planning on using a grommet on the hole, or taping the wire. I'm not sure what guage it is... I like the idea of the wire mold... I'll have to look into that more. Thanks again!

I have always used string, a shop vac and gravity to wire a tower. It works really well.

aikenis hit it on the head; that's the easiest way to run wires in a tower!

FRANK!!! You rock, that's the smartest idea I've ever heard in my entire life... Thanks for hooking a brother up, for the second time!!! Call me if that doesn't make it there tonight.

MHayes - I hear ya on that other thread about tower speakers... us "simple folks" need to stick together... hahaha
