    Electrical Issues

Have a couiple questions regarding my 2000 Nautique with GT-40 engine.

    1. When I don't use the boat for 5 or more days the battery is almost dead. I've now gone through three of them within 4 years. It seems that there's some sort of draw when the boat isn't running. None of the electronics (lights, bilge, blower,) are left on. Has anyone else run into this?

    2. The shower randomly quit working last summer, the instrument panel will not light up when the button is pushed. Does this sound like a pump or dash panel problem? Fuse is not popped and seems to be fine. Two years ago I had to replace the push button ignition panel for $600 (ouch!).

    Any input is appreciated.

I don't know what kind of fuse it is, but I just had a cylinder fuse that looked fine, but it actually burnt inside the ends. Replaced it and was back up and running and I was lucky a buddy told me the same thing happened with him. If the instrument doesn't light up I would say it's panel problem. As for the battery I would all the wires and make sure nothing is shorting out, or.... I don't know there, there has to be some draw from it for it to drain like that.

      RE: Electrical Issues

Using a 12 volt dc test light, disconnect the negative cable, and hook your test light between the negative cable and negative post on the battery. If the light illuminates this indicates a draw on your battery. With the test light still attched to your terminal, and battery, start pulling fuses one at a time, and when the light goes out you know what circuit to check.
