boat stalling/check engine light up/lacking power

    very periodical issue.

this week end was very humid/hot in Montréal and my boat decided to stall after hitting a decent size wave. The boat had issues getting full power (was cruising at 15-20mph) when I would lay the hammer down.

when the boat stalled (1 hour away from the marina!!!) the check engine light came on..the battery was DEAD..?!I tried to crank it back, it would turn but not fire. after a few long minutes (with the booster pack hooked up to the SINGLE!! battery) it started...

    so.... gremlins gremlins gremlins...

    02 sante 5.7 400hrs

    -temps was fine (new impeller)
    -oil was fine (quantity/temp)

    I'm thinking spark plugs/wires?

    thanks in advance.

I still love my nautique...I love it like OJ loved his wife...

Given that everything seemed to have started with hitting the wave, my first thought is that you need to check your connections at the battery for either being loose or corroded. You might also take a look at the connections on your alternator as well. Typically strange things start to happen when you have a bad ground (connections) or the battery is dying.

As for not getting full power, it sounds like the boat may have went into limp mode. Start with the battery and connections first and let us know what you find. Check the voltage at the battery as well to see what it is reading. Is it a fairly new battery?

Sorry guy...but you are going about it the wrong way. You've dumped some inconsistent symptoms on us with no extra diagnostics from your part on the obvious and expect us to the answer from our crystal ball????

        1. You have a dead battery. Have you charged the battery with a charger? Will it take a charge? If it did, have you had it load tested?

        2. You tried to crank it but it would not fire. How would it fire if it couldn't crank? Did it crank? Did you crank it so long you burnt up the starter and drained the battery and chinese booster?

        3. How would hitting a decent size wave ruin your spark plug wires?

I'm thinking corroded ground at the battery. Air tool brings up good points though. Check the battery and alternator if both are good go to engine ground then coil ground. Spark plug wires cause misses not a dead boat.

                FORGOT TO ADD!!!!!!

my speedo started to act up (speed is very hard to read)

is this related to the bad battery/connections?
