Hey everyone, I've been reading these forums for years now, and you all have helped me through countless problems. I've search the forums for answers here and haven't found anything conclusive.
Background: Winterized the boat last year. This week: put 4 gallons of fresh fuel in the tank. Seafoam in the gas and the crankcase. Changed the engine oil, and the transmission oil. Fuel filter, low pressure fuel pump were totally replaced last year. This year, boat started up after giving the throttle some gas. Now the problems.
1. When changing the engine oil, the oil came out a light brown color, like melted chocolate ice cream. This hasn't happened before, do I have water in the engine?
2. While the boat will start, it will not idle half of the time. When the throttle is pulled back, the engine quits immediatly. There is also a knock on the driver side, but this goes away as the engine warms up.
3. When put into gear (both forward and reverse), the v-drive makes a very loud knocking. I've checked the linkage to the transmission and the engine, and with the throttle pushed down about 25% (this is where this boat starts to idle forward in the past) the v-drive is engaged, with no in engine RPMs. Is the linkage screwed up, or is this normal?
4. When idling, the Voltometer shows erratic voltage from 12-max voltage. The arm swings back and forth very quickly. This is beyond me. Wiring problem?
5. Tach shows 1200 engine Rpms at idle, only occasionally drops to the normal 600-650 rpms.
I know it's a lot, but I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
