1998 Supersport needs help - first post

Hey everyone, I've been reading these forums for years now, and you all have helped me through countless problems. I've search the forums for answers here and haven't found anything conclusive.

Background: Winterized the boat last year. This week: put 4 gallons of fresh fuel in the tank. Seafoam in the gas and the crankcase. Changed the engine oil, and the transmission oil. Fuel filter, low pressure fuel pump were totally replaced last year. This year, boat started up after giving the throttle some gas. Now the problems.

    1. When changing the engine oil, the oil came out a light brown color, like melted chocolate ice cream. This hasn't happened before, do I have water in the engine?

    2. While the boat will start, it will not idle half of the time. When the throttle is pulled back, the engine quits immediatly. There is also a knock on the driver side, but this goes away as the engine warms up.

    3. When put into gear (both forward and reverse), the v-drive makes a very loud knocking. I've checked the linkage to the transmission and the engine, and with the throttle pushed down about 25% (this is where this boat starts to idle forward in the past) the v-drive is engaged, with no in engine RPMs. Is the linkage screwed up, or is this normal?

    4. When idling, the Voltometer shows erratic voltage from 12-max voltage. The arm swings back and forth very quickly. This is beyond me. Wiring problem?

    5. Tach shows 1200 engine Rpms at idle, only occasionally drops to the normal 600-650 rpms.

I know it's a lot, but I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Found a similar problem here: http://www.planetnautique.com/index....t=water+engine with the symptom of "milky oil". How can I tell if it's water in the fuel, a bad head gasket or a cracked block?

Check the level with the dipstick.....is it over full?

These guys check for water I believe (glycol for sure but you probably don't have that). The results from your first test take about three weeks. The tests also show if ring material or bearing material is in your oil.

Just curious how much Seafoam you added to the gas and oil? Did you have any issues with the boat last year before winterizing it?

I'm not sure where you are located, thus I'm not sure how cold it gets in the winter. What did your winterization process consist of?

As for the water in the engine, I'm almost sure of it. Oil doesn't turn to mayonaise on its own. I'm 90% the head gasket is blown, or there is a leak somewhere else. Also, I replaced all 8 spark plugs. 2 of the 8 were totally rusted on the spark end.

I used 6 ounces of seafoam in the oil, and 5 ounces with 5 new gallons of gas.

I live in Florida, so winterization for me normally includes flushing the engine with fresh water and putting stabil in the fuel.

If your oil is milky then you have water in it. I had it happen to me with my big block El Camino.
