The brackets attached to the platform (female side) have opened themselves up so the platform has lots of movement. So much so that the hole in the pin attached to the hull has worn right through. I am curious if anybody knows if this is a common problem due to the extra weight of the engine and the fact that when the boat is at rest the platform is underwater. Also any ideas to fix existing hardware, replace (ouch I am being told $300) for new ones, or prevent problem from happening again would be appreciated. I have been told by CC that the problem is because I dock the boat with the stern exposed to the wake on the lake LOL. #1 the previous owner kept the boat on a lift (or I was told). #2 the boat only has 300 hours and the problem started when it had around 200 and our lake has very little wake. I previously had a Malibu (everybody has to start someplace) and after 900 hours the platform was as tight as a new.

RE: Worn Platform Brackets on 2001 SAN with 501 engine
The only way to permanently solve that problem is to swap out that BEAST of a motor for a smaller one. It has nothing to do with the way you dock it. I have 340 hours on mine and it is a bit rattle-y. My friends has 1200 hours on his and it is pretty loose.

Well a wake beating against it will certainly wear those pins some, but like WakeSlayer said most of it is probably from the rattling. If you replace them, make sure it stays tight, once it loosens up it will quickly wear out again.

What about drilling new holes above and below the pins and using a couple SS bolts, this may allow you to tighten or close the connection just enough to keep it from rattling.

Same problem on my boat, same engine different hull. I just drilled them out to 1/4" and got some SS bolts.
FWIW- OJ Propellors is considering building replacement brackets for CC's. The OEM brackets are prone to this type of problem, and replacement OE brackets will only solve the problem temporarily. I'm supposed to be getting some prototypes for these, I'll let you know when I see them.2008 230 TE-ZR6
