    Arrrrrrggghhh won't turn over

    Hi All,

I have a 2002 Super Air, and am about to pull what little hair I have left out... Here's the deal: I get power to the ignition, can run all acc. but as soon as I hit the start button, all I get is a click and the power to the ignition goes off. Have checked for possible low battery, have checked the kill switch (bypassed it) with all power to the systems I don't know what to check next.

We live in a fairly remote area with the nearest dealer several hundred miles away.

Here I kneel in a begging position half near to tears. Please Obi Wan, you are the only one who can help.

    thanks in advance...

check fuses! You have the 330 right? Check the red 60 fuse on the motor. the best thing to do is start at the battery with a volt meter and follow along until you find where you are not getting power. Good Luck

I know this is gonna sound real redneck and crude, but try hitting the starter with a hammer or something similar while someone else tries to start the engine. If it tries to turn over then, pull the starter and have it rebuilt.

A friend of mine just had the same thing happen to his '03. Starter solenoid was sticking so most of the time all he got was a click. This happened the first time he tried taking it out after sitting up all winter.

Agreed. Clean every single battery cable connection, both positive and ground, from the battery to the block (-) and starter (+). Also have your battery load tested.

What youre describing is the classic low-voltage condition- and dirty cables and bad batteries are the most common culprits.

Yep, just went through this. Same symptoms. Replaced the battery cable ends and cleaned the battery terminals and all is good again.

Just had same problem - Shifter wasn't exactly in neutral

Check to make sure it's exactly in neutral. I was JUST slightly out of neutral, and finally I realized it and just bumped it into neutral, and away it went.

RE: Just had same problem - Shifter wasn

Core-rider, doesn't sound redneck at all. Done it many times on a Chevy. However, it's not the problem.
It's not the kill switch or the neutral throttle either, because those wouldn't shut down the power.

As Tim said have the battery load tested. Had the same issue on my 01 just two months ago.
Replaced battery and cleaned terminals and all is well.

it is the ground wire or bad battery

I had a similar problem, kept blowing fuse when i hit the start button, turned out to be the low pressure fuel pump was shorted and drawing too much current. Just a thought...I was pulling my hair out for about a week trying to figure that one out. Good Luck!!

What was the fix? I have the same issue on my 2001 Super Air Nautique. Accessories work but the power drops out when I press the start button. Was it a battery load issue?

Chased this last year on a 2002 SN196. It was somewhat intermittent, as it would do it one time and not the next. Cut and re-terminated battery connection, looked for bad grounds, battery appeared to be fine and charge up.. Finally gave up and put a new battery in it and never had an issue again. Battery was going bad but would start the boat some of the time.
