Loud, likes fuel, rattles, expensive... Other words, it's a great engine! If you just wakeboard the fuel consumption isn't to bad or even the same as a GT40. But when hammering the throttle you would nottice it! It's was an expensive upgrade from CC back in those days and if you like it, it's a big plus.

RE: pcm 502 python 430hp
Having owned both (father in law had a python) there are some significant nuances. The python is really loud because it does not have a muffler. The motor is too big to fit one. If you like to idle around at sunset then be prepared to yell at each other. GT-40 is really quiet in that aspect. Power, the python is a monster. I pegged the 50mph speedo with out any trouble. It did not matter how much weight you put in it it will pull it with ease. If you can deal with the noise go for it because they are rare. If I had the option I would go for it, and install some fresh air exhaust.

I love mine. I have never agreed with the "too loud" sentiment. Gas useage is negligible. the power and torque is amazing, and you get a bit of free ballast to boot.
When CC first put them out, it was a $10k upgrade.the WakeSlayer

If its too loud, you're too old. Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on! The python rocks and fuel consumption isn't any worse than any other ski boat. I've found I use less gas when towing because I only need a slight amount of throttle to get going. It was an expensive option (around 9K). If you can get it, do it. Mine is a 2000 with almost 300 hours on it, just change the oil every year and plugs every other. It will use a little bit of oil, but that is a characteristic of the engine.2000 SuperSport 502 Python

I love mine. I added an aftermarket muffler to quite it down a bit but it is still louder than the small block. They make a better fresh air exhaust now that are better than my small inline silencer tips. Gas consumtion is same as small block. We ride at 25mph and somewhere around 2.5KRPM, as opposed to the 3.7KRPM on the small block.
I am just under 500hrs and have had zero issues. Just changed the oil every 50hrs.
