    Drive shaft key worn out

Last night I found out that I had to replace the key that is located between the engine coupler and the drive shaft.

I am good with doing mechanic stuff myself, but since I bought my boat used and it didn't come with a Owners Manual, and I never did this before, I really don't know what to do.

    the specs of the boat:
1999 CC 196ob Ski Nautique with pcm gt40 efi

1- how do I remove and replace the shaft ?
2- is there things I should check while I have the shaft in my hands?
3- should I be changing any other parts while I am doing this?
4- what parts should I order before starting the work?
5- is there special tools I need?
6- can someone help me get a maintenance manual to do this (I need specs for thightening )?
7- how long should this process take?

I look forward to your answers and help

elberts.com will walk you thru the process. i would go for a new strut bushing and some fresh packing, but you should be able to tighten the shaft without removing it completley.

tryan, I am glad you answered my post, I've noticed by your many answers on this board that you really seem to know what you are doing.

So I will go to that url and go from there!

      thank you so much.
