Probably Need Rebuild - Converting 351w to Pro Boss?

I have a 1990 SN. My stock 351 has at least a blown head gasket and maybe a cracked head or block (winterize early and don't rely on heaters). What ignition do I have/how do I tell?

Is a Pro Boss my engine with electronic ignition and GT-40 heads? If I have to rebuild my motor and the heads are cracked, should I get GT-40 or GT-40p heads? Would those plus an electronic ignition coversion get me 285 hp instead of my 240?

Thanks for your help, you guys are great!

Protec didnt debut until 1991, so you should have a conventional distributor ignition. I dont believe they were converted to EI from the factory until a few years later- so you may have points.'

While the engine is apart, I highly recommend you upgrade the heads/cam/intake if you want more power. That would add about 80hp. Try CorrectCraftFan.com for specifics- lots of info over there.

gt-40p heads are the ones you want. There's much debate, but they perform better at the RPM range we're looking at in the marine world. With increased flow in your heads,. TRbenj is right, probably want to redo the cams and intake while you've got it apart. You can go as far as you want with this engine. EI is probably a good idea-r too.
