oil presssure

I bought a used 2003 SAN with about 80 hours on it a few days ago. This evening I noticed that the tachometer monitor flashes low oil pressure with a red light briefly when I start the engine. At idle it reads from 16-19 pressure and about 45 at 3000 RPM. I hope this is normal. I just moved up from a 1984 Ski Nautique so this boat has information overload to me. Also I got a kink in the wire running to the starboard cut off switch to ballast tank. It is very tempermental now and will fill up by itself. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The oil pressure light seems to be a standard thing. It flashes on mine also. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I agree with Luke concerning the low pressure warning. Mine did that this afternoon. As long as the gauge reads the proper pressure, I wouldn't worry about it. I would guess that the computer reads the pressure as soon as the engine is started, before pressure has had time to build up. It probably throws the warning up before pressure is established.

As for the wire, if you know where the kink is, just cut out that section and reconnect the wire. Make sure to splice it properly since it'll be around water.

What weight oil are you running? My 206 doesn't drop below 30 psi at idle when cold. It might drop below that when warm but not much. It shoots up to around 60 psi when cold and stays around 45-50 when hot.

Rule of thumb, 10 lbs for every 1000 rpm turned.
