    New Boat Pre-inspection

Okay guys, I need your insight. I have an offer on this 00 Air Nautique and want to have it checked out. But being my first inboard, what do I ask for to have looked at?
If someone is in the area, I'd be willing to pay them to check it for me.

Check the service records, find out where the service was done and call them. Check the gelcoat for any scratches and the interior. Check the engine bay for any signs of belt dust. You would want the service center to say the oil was changed regularly - every 50 hours or so and a new impeller every year. You wouldn't want the boat to have been submerged.

Also watch out for the hummingbird 600 depth finders that came with those model years, they had issues as well as the Teleflex gauges. If it has one insist they replace it with either the 610 model or a Faria depth finder instead, or discount the price...

I would also check to make sure the transmission fluid is in good shape, the transmissions in these boats don't have a filter like a car does, so it is important to change it on the std 100 hour interval.

Lastly, make sure the running gear (tracking fins, rudder and propeller) are all in excellent shape.

              HTH's,

                Good stuff, thx.!
The boat has less than 160hrs. So, I think it should be fairly tight.

I and others put this together a year or so ago. I used it when I bought my 98 SN and was glad I had it. There's a lot to remember to check.

watch out for a boat that age with so few hours. it either means some adults never used it or it was broken ALL the time

If it has the digital gauges the hours will likely be wrong.

Almost all of the digital gauges form the 2000-2002(?) went bad and were replaced under warranty. when they got replaced the hours went back to 0. So if it's a ford block there is no way to tell how many hours are actually on the boat. If it still has the digital gauges take some $$ from the price and put a perfect pass system in.
