Just wondering if this is true? I have a 2000 SAN with standard 55 amp alternator, I am about to put a larger stereo in (3 amps, tower lights etc) I have heard that I will need to put a bigger 100amp alternator in. I just got off the phone with my Nautique dealer and he said i need to put a whole new wiring harness in. Also the whole job done through them including a 2nd battery install is looking at just over $1500.00 is this right? Thanks in advance for your help

RE: Bigger alternator = new wiring harness?
I put a single wire 140+amp alt in my SSN and haven't had a single problem yet. Compare the $1500 they're quoting you to the $200 ($150 for the alt, $50 for larger power/ground wiring for the system) + 30min of my time that it took to replace my alternator; I'm sure there is a reason why they want to be safe and do the harness, but at the same time people have got to make money - but speaking from my experience I've never had a problem over the year and a half I've had the bigger alt in my boat with the stock harness.

RE: Bigger alternator = new wiring harness?
Thanks for that. that was what i was thinking. Where did you get your alternator from? Any make or model. Sorry for all thequestions my boat is located with my family in Houston and i am flying up at the end of the month to take her out and then put into the container to bring back to New Zealand. So need to get everything sorted before then. Thanks again
