    Boat stalling problem (GT-40)

Ok, yesterday my friend and I took the boat out for about an hour, just driveling around at idle speed. The boat was fine, but then when my friend went wakeskating first weird thing was that for no reason the throttle burped (meaning that the throttle cut out, but then came back) that was the first weird thing that the boat has never done. Now the stalling issue happens at idle speed (and only at idle speed) you put the boat barely in gear and the boat will die, but she has no problem with running at any speed above and idle speed the boat also can idle fine. (Idle speed is actually slower than the idle) All engine vitals are perfect, I'm suspecting that it might be a bad fuel pump? Fuel filter? The boat had been sitting for about 3 weeks with 3/4 of a tank. (Bad fuel?) But if it is bad fuel then why did it run for about 2 hrs perfect then start doing this funky deal?

Sorry about my typing, I'm writing this on a really s*itty monitor and a Pentium I at 200 MHZ.
    How about \"Chales\"?

It doesn't sound fuel related. You would have issues at higher speeds. If your fuel pump(s) were bad, you would hear a constant whistling noise. Not sure what it is but I wouldn't lean towards it being a fuel issue.

I noticed that the idle in forward speed is 500 RPM's vs the factory spec 650 RPM.

I think (hope) that its a fuel filter, beacause if you think about it the fuel pump is sucking less fuel at lower RPM's (true?) therefore when there is more fuel moveing through the system at a higher pressure it can get through the clog? I don't know, but shes going into the mechanic tomarow so I guess I'll find out soon enough... As far as I know the fuel filiter has never been replaced. since shes getting fuel and spark the only other thing that can be really wrong is the air, so perhaps it could be a clog in the air intake?

I'm ever hopeful that its something simple so that shes not in need of a part. beacause i would really like to use her this weekend, since i wont be able to ride too much this summer (I can pull my friends, but alass I don't trust anyone with the boat)

I'm not sure how the fuel pressurel on your GT-40 varies with RPM. The job of the first pump is to keep the FCC full. THe second pump delivers fuel to the rail at a constant pressue--no matter what the rpm. If I'm not mistaken, the volume changes, not the pressure. The air intake is probably not clogged. Not even sure how you would clog that intake. The only other thing I can imagine is your air sensor just behind the opening of the throttle body is going bad or has oil on it. Does your buddy spray fogging oil into the throttle body to winterize the boat? You might have your mechanic check that sensor as well.

My guess is that you have a fuel filter issue.

Well the boat finaly got fixed, and yes, all of us who said that it was the fuel filter were correct, apparently it was all gunked up...

So wahoo! Easy fix and I'll be back on the lake this weekend!
