After having the boat let me down at SML last week-end I have arrived home, fixed the issue and have confirmed all is ok.
It appears that the fuel hose from the high pressure pump was the culprit however I went ahead and changed the pump just to be sure.
Everyone should take note of this post and others and take the time this off-season (is there such a thing?) and remove the FCC and replace the filter and hose from the pump to the FCC. It seems as though the 96-97 PCM engines had a vinyl hose that was not suitable for gasoline and will fail (in my case at the most in opertune time).
To remove the FCC can be a struggle in itself. I ended up with a strap wrench and 2 rubber grip pads from the kitchen along with a 2' section of pipe for additional leverage.
