    Fresh Water Flushing

I will be using my boat in salt water and will flush the motor out just as soon as I get home after a short, ten minute, drive from the slipway.

Can anyone provide any tips for flushing the motor when the boat is on the trailer, also what's tha max water pressure the cooliing system is designed for and what flow rate is required.

    How long should I flush the motor for, 1 minute, 2, 3, 5, 10?

How noisy is the exhaust when you run a 343 motor on a trailer, don't wanna get the neighbours miffed?

    RE: Fresh Water Flushing

    206,
Don't worry about the noise. You're not going to be out there reving it up into the high RPM's! It's not that much louder than a high idle at the dock. Normal house pressure of 40 to 50 PSI off the garden hose won't hurt anything. 2 minutes of run time will be plenty of time to get the salt water out. Are you going to be doing this on a regular basis? Do you have the flush kit?

I run my boat in brackish water, so I flush it each time. Make sure that you get a flush kit, this makes it so much easier. I recommend at least 2 mins AFTER the thermostat is open all the way (when the boat is at operating temp). Also know that you will want/need to wash the entire boat each time and hose off the motor to keep corrosion to a minimum. Hopefully you have galvanized trailer, but you will want to hose it off with fresh water also. If you have a steel trailer, it won't last very long.

Max "design" pressure is about 18 psi and (IMO) your house pressure can easily blow your POORLY DESIGNED vortec intake gaskets and leak water into your lifter gallery and oil pan. Search PN for posts on flushing adapters and how to limit the pressure. There are many good posts.

yes, when the engine is cool hose it off to remove salt. i used mine at gulf shores and immediately flushed it and then hosed off the fiberglass top to bottom, my whole galvanized trailer, and the seats. even if u dont see salt when the water dries it leaves it on the boat.

I would not hook it up to household water presure, run a garden hose to a large bucket of water and another hose(submerged in the water) from the bucket to the trans cooler. I don't remember for sure but I think the ID of the cooler hose is 1 1/4".

I may get one too. I think a flush kit lets eccess pressure out the water intake, doesn't it?

i have no idea, but my buddy and his dad who are more fanatic about taking care of their nauti have always used it and i have too and have never been told to do the bucket thing, but it wouldnt take much extra time to do that so if you're worried go for it.
