    Ballast Tank Question

I have a 2000 SAN, and am having a ballast tank problem. I just bought this boat not too long ago, and think I have a problem with the empty pump on my ballast system. If I open the sea ****, open the valves (starboard/port), and turn on the assist pump, water just pumps out the vent on the starboard side of my boat and never empties the tanks. Would this mean the dealership that serviced this boat possibly put the lines going into the empty pump on backwards? It fills up with no problems and will empty on the trailer with no problem as long as I don't turn the empty pump on. But it will not empty in the water at all. Any suggestions, answers to this would be greatly appreciated, and i look forward to many nautique discussions with you guys!!

      RE: Ballast Tank Question

Not familiar with the ballast on a 2000 but does it not pump out the bottom of the boat. I know it does on my buddies 2001 SAN. Also should you not pump the water out with the valves closed. I don't know, maybe I shoudn't have even replied because like I said I'm not familiar with that system.

it is supposed to pump out of the bottom of the boat. mine is acting like it is trying to refill it, and it is coming out the overflow vent on the side. for some reason the instructions say to open the starboard/port valves. What are the steps you take on the 2001? These may be similar.

The two valves you open are air vents on the tanks--only. My 99 SAN had two tanks, two pumps on the hose from the seacock. The pumps are one pump pulls the water in and the other pump pushes the water out. So possible the empty pump is plumbed backwards so it is sucking from the seacock instead of sucking from the tank. The fill pump actually pushes through the empty pump and empty pump pushes through the fill pump. Slow go. I replumbed mine like a 2005 SAN. Seperate pumps and seacocks....sweet.

Replacing that old system with a newer pump setup is about the best upgrade you can possibly do to your boat. I did mine two seasons ago.
