not to split hairs, but redmondforsale can you post the pic of your transom tow? I can't imagine skiing off my rear lifting ring. Also, the edges of the ring aren't exactly rounded...not very good for ropes. But the new wakeboard boats have a pop up tow pylon back there.
tyzac, might want to post a pic of your rear attach point too. I've seen too many variations over the years (some I'd use, some I wouldn't)
Incidentally, if you really want to give the kiddies a good tube ride, use the tower (if you have one). Save the pylon for skiing. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

After seeing that picture, I looked at the back of mine this weekend. Same sticker on a 98 196 and there's nothing back there but the ring and a grab rail. So, it has to be referring to the ring.
I had read so much on here about don't use the lifting ring, I hadn't taken the simple step to read the instructions.
I will pull from the ring with no worries for things like tubes, kneebaords, double skis when I have 4 people in the boat.
Of course, for slalom it will be off the post.

OK I'm confused now. If I was to pull a tube, where should a pull it from. I guess I've heard that we shouldn't pull from the lifting ring, but I can't seem to remember? I pulled the carpet from mine this morning and it looks like just 2 screws hold it in place (side to side and from turning loose) and there is a piece of ALL thread that looks like it ties into the floor somewhere. I'd think the pylon would be a strong point to pull from, i'd imagine Andy Maple can put more force on the pole then 2 or 3 tubes.
Since we are on the subject what about the tower for pulling tubes????
I've not pulled a tube in several year, but since I'll be moving to where we have some nieces, I might have the need.
Ok one more thing. I think all the comments about pulling tubes with a N are just in good fun and I'm sure we would all agree on that.. We all use are boats for different things, I like to use mine for hanging with friends for a beverage of choice. So I'll poke a little more. I think MC, Supra, Bu are all specifically built for pulling tubes. N builds boats for Skiing, WB, Footing, ETC and if we have kids that want to tube, we have all the HP and tracking to make it safe and fun. At the end of the days Walt made boats for bring FAMILY AND FRIENDS together.
One One more thing. I'd chllenge you to go and get a truck tube and make a harness. It would humble the best man into thinking tubing is easy..

RE: Found This
I can not believe I an giving advise on towing tubes. The rear lifting ring can be used for pulling light loads, but not heavy ones. If you pull tubes aggressively, do not use the lifting ring, use the pylon.
The lifting ring is designed for verticle loads. It can handle some lighter sideways loads, but not heavy ones. The pylon is designed to handle sideways loads.
Put three or four teenage boys on some tubes, and if you start pulling hard sideways, and trying to throw them off, and you can put more sideways stress on the lifting ring than a single slalom skier can, even Andy Mapple.
I also take care of a 1998 Ski Nautique with a tower, and pulling tubes off the tower has caused some stress cracks in the aft tower mounting points. Repairing that is a winter project.
Just a side note, I have been to many camps over the years, and have taught a lot of youth to ski, and have also entertained them on tubes. I have never had a person come up to me and thank me for dragging them around on a tube, other than immediately after we are done. I have had many come up to me, sometimes a few years later, and thank me for teaching them to ski or wakeboard.
Teaching a person to ski, or wakeboard stays with a person forever.
You probably remember the first time you got up on skis. Do you remember the first time you went on a tube? Which made a bigger impression on you?

RE: Found This
I feel that you need to hook up about 5 tubes to the lifting ring and go for it. No problem. Am I being factious? Yes!! Tubing is a wonderfull sport!

Tubing is about as much a sport as Cheerleading is... Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
Seriously, anybody that thinks tubing isn't a challenge, I'll give them a pull (and I won't get above 20mph)

pylon or lifting ring
Pulling from the Lifting ring..Pulling from the pylon....Pulling tubes from either..
Seems like a few people like tubes others don't....Some pull from lifting ring, some don't...Some pull from the pylon ,some don't.....We don't tube here all the time time..But when it comes to tubing Its a Blast.....Like it a earlier Post...I have pulled from my old 84 ski, 2-3 tubes from the ring or pylon for 10 years off and on..
NEVER see any cracking or anything going on from the ring,,And I checked it about everytime we tubed...Now with my 2000 ski(6years) pulled tubes also..
Nothing Happening to the ring ...But to each his/her own I guess...Has anyone heard of anyone jerking the ring out..
Like Skitower said....It is a CHALLENGE.
