Whether or not magic erasers are hard on vinyl or not (I hope not because I've used them extensively to clean my vinyl over the past few years), they will NOT infect near naked bodies with horrible chemicals because they contain no chemicals!

Magic erasers are just a brand name for a foam called "Melamine foam" that has the remarkable ability to remove "uncleanable" stains from surfaces due to its micropourous structure.

If you're that concerned about chemicals, I hope you have installed a fresh air exhaust as I'd bet the fumes from your exhaust are much more damaging to your health than any Fantastik residue on your vinyl.

HEY!!! Someone else who knows about Melamine. We get it from industrial supply places and actually, a really good place to look are companies that supply to recording studios. (it's a great fireproof sound deadener, as well) and we get big sheets of it, which is much, much cheaper. It is certainly a superabrasive and super hard (on a micro level) which is why it breaks down so fast. I just hope I get killed by a bolt of lightning, not a slow painful death from absorbing chemicals. I hear you though, laying around sweating without a shirt on has to be a great way to get a bunch of cleaner residue on and in you...

also.. there aren't any chemicals in the magic eraser to make it clean better, it's just the structure of the melamine foam itself. It's very, very hard on a micro level, even though they feel soft to the touch. The problem with them is that they are so abrasive many people think they scrape the plasticizers and protectant off the vinyl. I've used them for years and then applied 303 right afterwards with great results, although I can't guarantee some day that all the seats won't just explode... then again, I have a much older boat.

Hey Travis, your experience with your older boat gives me a comfort level as I also always apply 303 right after I use the magic eraser.

I hear ya about getting struck by lightning, a much better way to go than through massive Formula 409 absorption.
