    RE: 07 SANTE...Oil Useage!

The engine probably didn't get broken in properly. You need to check the plugs and see if they are fouling.

Your oil ring didn't seat properly. Best thing to do at this point might be to do the throttle up and coast trick as often as you can. After a few hours, check or change your plugs and hope that your valves don't foul.

There is also a chance you have a leaky valve guide seal and your smoke is at restarts only. This is an easy fix (relative).

I suggest a dry and wet compression test to check your rings.

Some chevy's just plain burn a little bit of oil. How many hours are you going between oil changes?

Did you check the oil immediately after you changed it? I always check it when I fill it and again after I run it for a few minutes.

I concur...let CC deal with it. Otherwise, start with Air Tool's suggestions.

What you're seeing could very well be normal, especially for the Chevy engines. They seem to use more oil than the GT40s did prior to them.

They did that to keep the compression ring lubricated.

                  Yeah....if it's a 2 stroke.

Otherwise the oil ring didn't seat.

My 08 210 seems to like to burn oil too. I had to add a quart before I made it to 25 hours, and I was following the burn-in procedures to the letter. When I took it to the dealer for the 25 hour service, they said that that was normal and not to worry about it. During normal usage at approx. 70 hours, my check engine light came on and when I checked the oil, I was about two quarts low. Once again, the dealer told me this was normal behavior. I too have been using the Rotella oil just like the manual states. The boat runs fine, all the guages show fine, and the oil pressure reads fine. I'm just assuming that this is normal since the dealer is telling me that it is.

Every engine uses some oil. If you think your engine does not "use" any oil, rest assured that the oil that is being used, is being replaced by combustion by products that are keeping the apparent oil level about the same.
Do you see blue smoke when you accelerate hard? That would worry me more.
My manual says to check the oil level before each use.
You should also drive the engine at WOT when breaking it in. Do not hold WOT long, just long enough to reach max RPM, and then close the thottle to idle, until the boat slows down to no wake speeds. Do this cycle a lot.
I did this with my 1997 Ski, it now has 2055.3 hours and runs good, and at the last oil change, got out about 4 quarts of oil after running the engine about 50 hours.
