    what prop

i have a 78 ski nautique im looking into getting a 4 blade prop for it since i mainly use it for wakeboarding and tubeing....I have been told it will do better under load....i want some opinions on wether it is worth it to go for a 4 blade or just stay will my regualr 3 blade....I have been doing some research and have had some trouble finding out what size of prop my boat has stock.......Another reason why im looking into a new prop is because last weekend i went to my local mudhole of what used to be called a lake and hit a tree that was submerged didnt do any damage to the glass, the major damage was to my prop so now im faced with ether just fixing this one or getting a new one....im leaning towards getting a new one and fixing my old one just so i have a spare....

    RE: what prop

Fill this out and request a four blade. If you don't have the WOT data just tell him...don't make it up.

      RE: what prop

Definitely look at the Acmes. The problem you will run into with your 78 is that the 4 blades will turn a little more rpm than the 3 blades. This would only be noticeable if you're slalom skiing at 34-36, though. Depending on what pitch and cup you use, you could put your engine at those speeds at the point where the 4 barrel opens and closes. Been there done that! lol

bd, A RH prop will turn clockwise looking from the rear when moving forward. Unless someone has repowered with a LH, you should have a RH prop. Also a 1" shaft and not the 1&1/8" you mentioned.

AT has list the available 1" props from Acme. You also can go with O.J.'s and Michigan/Ferderal props. You may need to remove the prop as sizes sometimes stamped on the hub end. If I were you, I'd go with the Acme 540.

The Acme 540 prop is considered by "most" to be the best upgrade you can make to your particular boat . It is a 3 blade, 13x12 and is what I run on my 81SN. It will increase your WOT by approx 400 rpm, the holeshot/pulling power is like adding 40hp, you will be instantly gratified. Lots of bang for the buck, if you want to do a little more homework before buying do a search on CCfan for the 540 and you'll find a lot of info on it.
