    Ram-Lin Trailer Axle Broken

    I have a 98 Ram-Lin trailer that I purchased new from Midwest Correct Craft in 98 (for a regular closed bow Nautique). It doesn't have many miles on it and is in great shape. It is always stored in doors on concrete when not in use. On my way to the lake today, the trailer axle snapped while pulling it in the driveway. It broke right next to the leaf spring (toward the center of the trailer). It looks like it has been fatigued at this point for some time, as it has a darker color on the bottom quarter inch or so next to where the plate was welded to the bottom of the square axle stock. This plate has 4 holes in it and bolts to the leaf springs. I am guessing that it was a problem from day one when the plate was welded at this exact location to the square bar stock they used to make the axle. I am really glad I was only going a few miles per hour and not highway speeds. I have been a happy owner of many Nautiques and Ram-Lin trailers over the years and this is the first trailer problem (hopefully not a common one).
    Question, Has anyone heard of problems like this? Also, should I contact Ram-Lin, or Correct Craft. The Ram-Lin website says to contact Correct Craft.

    I had the exact type of axle failure that you did. Mine also happened at a low speed.

    See my thread;

    I had mine repaired at Ramlin directly, but they could probably arrange to have the parts shipped to you. Bad thing is, the old style of axle (yours) are no longer available. Ramlin modified my trailer to the new style of torsion axle.

    PM me if you want more details.

      Ram-Lin Trailer Axle Broken

      Thanks for the quick response. Was there anyone at Ram-Lin that you would recommend talking to? I wouldn't mind getting the rest of the details for your repair. I am new to the forumthing, what does PM mean? Did Ram-Lin charge you for anything, and how much work was it to convert it to the new style axle?
      Thanks,
      Kent

        PM means Private message. See the "PM" button down below the responses? You can hit that and you can send me a PM so that we could "discuss" some things offline.
        I don't mind telling you that Ramlin did charge for the repair, but did it for a very reasonable price. The other thing is that Ramlin inherited the design of your axle and mine from CC, which CC insisted on them staying with until their axle supplier could not supply them any longer.

        Ramlin is not setup to deal with the public, so you will need to get in touch with Dave McCorkle who is the owner, and see if you can get him to discuss it with you.

        You will also want to determine if your insurance will cover this, you may be surprised, and depending on where you live, it may be cheaper to buy another trailer. Ramlin is in Orlando, FL (their only location).

        Dave did offer to ship the parts to me in NC, and give some support to a welding shop to do the repair, so that might be a way to go as well.

        Let me know if you have any other questions.
