By today's standards. Yup.

Yes, the 305 was a bit underpowered. Good thing it was used on a river only about 50 feet above sea level. I definitely would not recommend this engine on Lake Tahoe.
I learned to slalom ski behind a 16 foot outboard boat with a 135 Merc. Another of my friends had an aluminum fishing boat with a 140? HP I/O.
I learned to get up with softer pulls, and now with age, I really do not "need" a GT-40 to get me out of the water.

^^ as did I on a 140hp IO. Just saying. My Mustang has a 289 and that is fine, but it is only 16ft, and weighs like 1800lbs.the WakeSlayer

When I was in high school we would sometimes ski behind an aluminum jon boat with an 18hp Evinrude. Now, we had to get up on two and drop, but we did slalom behind it. We only weighed about 130 at the time and it barely got going fast enough and the backend would get jerked all over the place, but we did it.
The big boat was an 18 foot trihull with an 85hp Evinrude.
I have a GT-40 and like it, but I think I could live with a 305 just fine.

That is one of the main guys that run http://www.hydrodyners.com a site for Hydrodyne, and similar twin engine boats, used mainly for midwest ski shows.
Small world, I also own a Hydrodyne hull, It is currently waiting for me to put a new transom back in it.
