I agree, CC and PCM do lots of testing to determine what type of oil to put in their engines. Follow the manual. Make sure to get the correct rating also. It has to do with the additives. Mine says to run "SJ" rated oil.

I just changed my oil last weekend... Went to three different Auto stores and could not find 15-40 weight oil??? Must not be a common weight for automotive application. Where is everyone purchasing this oil? Thanks ( I gave up and replaced it with 10-40)

40 W is what my manual says to use. The problem though it that the oil you need they dont really make anymore. They have taken out some of the friction additives out because of emissions. If you have a roller motor that is fine, however, if you have a GT-40 or older you are out of luck. You need to use a oil with a high zinc content. Valvoline Racing is one of the few that still makes one with ZDDP in it and that is what I run. There are plenty of articles on the web and a few on Correctcraftfan.com also. VR1 40W Valvoline is mine to be exact.

Regarding the ZDDP, if boat is an 06' it would have a roller motor, 02' was the last year for the GT-40.
PCM does not recommend using Synthetic oil in their engines. Most good auto parts stores will have 15w-40 which is commonly labeled as a Diesel Oil, verify the "Sx" rating also as noted above. Not sure why someone recommended not using 15w-40 unless the majority of your run time was below 50deg F, follow PCM guidelines and you should be fine.

I use Shell Rotella 15W 40. It is usually with the Diesel oil like Quinner said.
