Store skis/boards/etc in boat over winter?

We're in the tundra of Minnesota. Our '08 211 will be shrinkwrapped and stored outdoors. Has anyone done this and stored ski's, boards, and stuff in the boat over the winter? Problems with doing it?

I am beginning to miss Alabama.

no answer here for you, I always keep my gear in the garage, and no experience with the shrink wrap either. I just wanted to say hello from Alabama and Roll Tide!

What are you thinking? Moving from bama to the tundra is crazy. Keep it on the trailer, cut some holes in the bottom and if you have it shrink wraped you can use it as a fish house.
Our club has an 06 RLXI that we drain, fill with anti freeze, cover and let sit on the boat lift all winter. So far it has made it through 2 winters. I would not let my Nautique out side, but I am as anal as it gets for boat care.
I wouldnt let my ski outside all winter, the summer heat is hard enough on them.
Lots of people in Minn store there boats outside.

I bring all my stuff into the attic of our house. It's not heated, but it's better thant he garage....and most definetly better than the boat. I do this simply because I feel like I should. But technically, I am not sure.

I would think that jackets and ropes would be better off stored inside. But, skis and such, I am not sure. Perhaps, removing bindings and such, could allow the bare skis and boards to be stored in the boat? Just not sure dude...

I live in the twin cities and leave the boat in my garage with the cover just resting on the top (not cinched tight) for the winter. I take all of our skis, boards, boom, ropes, gloves, jackets, wetsuits, sunscreen - pretty much everything that can go - out of the interior of the boat. I do so for two reasons; first, I get all the stuff out so that I make sure the inside is completely dry before covering the boat for the winter (which can take days when you're trying to get the inside dry at the end of October) and, second, if a critter gets inside it won't chew on any of that stuff (I do place dryer sheets inside the boat, too, because I was told mice don't like dryer sheets - so far, so good). I am not sure if the cold, itself, is really that hard on the gear but that is not the reason I take all the stuff out.

Where are you located in MN?

Think I gotcha beat Mark. I'm on my 6th SN, and ALL of them have been, and are waxed from top to bottom EVERY time out when we return, they have NEVER been rained on, and no one gets in the boat until they have dried off on the platform first. Now, how is that for Yellow_Flash_Colorz: Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

I do enjoy the boat. It's overboard for you. For me, I have it down to a science, and ENJOY the fruits of my labor. Just as I enjoy running 7-10 miles a day and hitting the gym 5 days a week. To each his own.

Also, I have NO trouble when it comes time to sell one of my cars, etc.

A bit overboard, but people think I am nuts about things at my pace. Only 1 time per week for me on the wax and viniger rinse. When I am out of the promo thing I will be looking you up for a used boat.

I have heard that freezing isn't good for the skis or boards, but mine stay in the boat house and I have never had a problem.

will the shrink rap make it mildew inside?

Shrinkwrap is great. There will be no mildew problems if the boat is dry when you do it. I have added chemical damp rid to the boat when I did mine and that worked out great.
The only issue with equipment left in the boat that I see is how the glue would handle the expansion/contraction of weather. That is, the glue in bindings may become inflexible at low temps, but the ski/board may still be expanding during the temp changes. I normally keep my equipment in the garage, but I live in FL.

News flash Mark, you're NOT nut's. You do what you do because you want to. That makes you Mark, not what some one else would do.

BTW, I use Formula 113, cut with water in 32 .oz spray bottle. When the 196 comes out of the water onto the trailer, I spray the wax onto the wet boat, wipe it off so that it's for the most part dry, shiny, and waxed. When I get her home, it's under the boat with a creepy crawler, to finish the under side. Then a quick finish with micro fiber towel's, 3 at a time, to smooth out the wax. Done. The inside gets a quick but thorough rub down with 303. If you stay on top of it from day one, it's a breeze.

                              Regards my friend!!
