    '89 fuel sending unit

My fuel gauge seems to only read about 1/2 of the time, after it gets to about 1/2 tank it goes to E. Its tough to gauge how much is really in there at all....is their any fix to this issue...?

Anyone have issue getting off fuel filter? Mine is tight as ****, I haven't been able to get it unscrewed since I got boat last year. I am about to just replace the whole unit with a newer one. :?:

    RE:

Regarding your fuel gauge. First make sure you have the full nominal 12 volts feeding the gauge. Then pull the wire off the sending unit at the tank and ground it. The gauge should peg and if it does then chance are it's good. Next pull the sender out of the tank and using a VOM or DMM, check the ohms through the entire full to empty float position. The most common sender ohm rating is the 240 to 33. The reading you get with the meter should be smooth and linear through this range. If it checks, start looking for corroded connections between the sender and the gauge.

ok i'll give that a run this weekend, i tried a couple oil filter style wrenches and i thought I was going to tear the mount out of the side...I thought it might be easier to replace the whole houseing...
