replacing my gt40 what options do i have??

i blew a head gasket and found that i have a cracked head and some scarring in some of my cylinders. i want to replace the engine with a long block. i have a 1995 supersport (5.8 ltr 351 windsor). do i have any options with the years, can i buy an older remanufactured long block to does it need to be a 95 and does it have to have the gt 40 heads?? thanks alan

Not sure about all the details in your question. This group will obviously help.

But here is an excellent source to get your stuff properly rebuilt or a different long block. The may also know the answers to your questions.

There are also some parts and engines on www.skidim.com

you gotta have the GT40 heads, i know that much. a good machine shop can get your block in tip top shape. good luck.

You don't NEED the GT40 heads. But you definitely want them to match. There are some shops out there that have re-manufactured GT40p heads from old Explorers. They are better than the GT40's and WAY cheaper than buying a new set from SkiDIM.com. Bring your block down to the shop and have them flux it. Chances are you can just have them machine the block and put it all back together. I had to do that a couple years ago after turning a piston in to shrapnel and it was a lot less expensive than a new long block.

pj is correct, other 351 windsor heads will match up just fine. The GT40p would be a good way to go, just don't buy stock 351 heads they don't breath as well.
