    Pitot Mount

Pulled boat for some maintenance and noticed the mounting brackets for the pitot tubes didn't look right. Haven't noticed this before and very likely was always like this but want some feedback if this is normal. Seems like the bracket should be flush with the transom but don't want to tighten up and break something. Took right one off and the metal plate behind the plastic bracket obviously cannot fit flush with the transom since the metal "bump" doen not fit through the hole in the plate so this creates space between the bracket and the transom. Is this normal and what function does either this space or bump and metal plate serve? Something to do with the ability of the pitot tube to snap up if need be? Also, if I remove the plate so the bracket will mount flush to the transom (looks much nicer) will I have a negative effect? Don't really care about speed-o operation since all is done by PP anyway. Your input will be appreciated, Thanks.

The design obvious is for adjusting the angle of the pitot tip, some other model have same design.
