    check engine timing

Can someone send me to a link or explain exactly how I check my timing on my 2000 SNOB with a GT 40. I just don't know how to do it.
I have had the problem now all season and it comes and goes and I have checked and replaced everything except for the timing. The boat backfires when pulling the skier out of the water and hesitates. Okay at WOT or without a skier. Stars fine, idles fine. I have replaced fuel filter, checked pressure, cap, rotor, plugs, wires. Thanks !!!!!!!!

    RE: check engine timing

Should be the same procedure as 5.0L Mustangs: Pull the SPOUT plug (look for two wires that terminate in a shunt plug, usually around the distributor), clip your timing light to #1 plug wire, start 'er up and see where the timing mark lines up. Per my manual (for a '96), GT40 timing should be 5 deg BTDC @ 2000rpm.
