    painting windscreen frame

winter project - respray the windscreen frame.

is it best to do this in-situ, or remove it? im worried that if I remove it, it will be a struggle to refit.

also, how do you get the plastic pieces off the frame - they look like their just pushed in?

    (its a 91SN)

    cheers

it will be best to dis-assemble the entire thing, but re-assembly is no cake walk, so i'd suggest doing whatever u feel most comfortable with....

For best results, you'll definitely want to remove it and disassemble. Reassembly isnt a ton of fun, but not a tremendous task. The plastic pieces are just pressed in- they'll pry out with a screwdriver.

My 89 sport I had was a real pain to re-assemble. Your 91 may different but I'm sure it won't be easy. If you are going to take it off, would it not be better to have it powder coated versus spraying it?

By the way, I think Andrew should be required to respond to every post so we can see his avatar!

I painted my windshield frame on my 1997 Ski Nautique. I did it on the boat.
First, wax your boat. If you get any over spray on the gelcoat, it will come off easier. I then carefully masked off the boat, and the glass. Clean the bare aluminum per the instructions on the paint.
I used a rattle can paint. Went to a Mercury outboard dealer, and got a couple of cans of "Phantom Black" paint.
