    Inline Fuse and Battery Question

I have an 03 SANTE with the Excal 330 engine. While winterizing this weekend I noticed that there are two inline fuses on the positive side of the battery. Both of the fuse holders had separated, with one fuse broken and the other intact. Don't know how long it has been this way, but everything in the boat seems to function correctly. The question is, what are these fuses for?

Second question is somewhat humorous and kind of embarrassing. Since this was my first inboard and I picked it up late in the season, I spent a lot of time on the water and not a lot of time learning about the boat. I only noticed one battery under the rear starboard seat so one of my winter projects was going to be adding a second battery. Well last month I was doing some cleaning and decided to remove the rear seat from the boat. Low and behold, I found that my boat actually had a second batter under the port side rear seat and was covered by a panel that screwed into the floor. It is a small battery called a Stinger, and has gold connectors with allen screws holding the terminals on. Now here is the embarrassing part - how in the world do you remove the battery? It is installed in a tight fitting battery box that appears to be screwed into the floor panel. I tried for 20 minutes to pull this thing out, but I had no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - any smart cracks would be understandable, but not as well appreciated

RE: Inline Fuse and Battery Question

got a picture? does it not have a rope handle you can pull on? Maybe clamped in palce like some auto batterys are? Sure its a battery and not a capacitor? I think stinger makes some square capacitors.

nevermind, their caps look like amps, very different from the battery

RE: Inline Fuse and Battery Question

I would grab ahold of the terminals with vice grips and pull at it that way, being careful not to damage the gold connectors. Maybe wrap those in electrical tape prior to putting much pressure on them? You might, probably?, have some type of switch or isolator and just be using the stinger battery. If the fuses inline on your main battery are broken then it shouldn't be working at all, unless it's somehow fused together. These fuses are there for a reason and need to be repaired. They probably were put in place to insure against line failure for an amplifier? Anyway, with that line not being protected you could burn your boat up if they ground and arc... no es bueno..

Thanks all for the replies. I don't have any pics to show on the battery or the fuses. The Stinger battery has molded in handles and I used those to try and slide the battery out. No luck with that - it isn't budging. It is the SP800 model - I found some into on a couple of web sites and it appears that this is the type of battery used to run stereos only. It is listed as a dry cell battery for car audio.

I re-connected the one inline fuse that was still good, but left the other one with the damaged fuse alone. I'll pick up some fuses and look at it the next time I'm up at the house. I'll also try and take some pics and post later as well. Any idea on the amp size for these fuses? The one that is damaged is pretty much pulverized and there is no way to tell the size fuse that was in there.

As always, thanks for any help and advice. This continues to be a great resource of info for CC owners.

On my 2003 226 the audio amps power form the battery with inline fuses. Maybe one of your amps is not working. If it were for the sub amp you may not have a major difference just no sub woofer sound.

Use a fuse that will blow before you overheat your wires. Here is a great link. see section 14 for a fuse chart for each wire size. The maximum size fuse depends on the wire size but you may want to chose a much smaller fuse to protect your amp.
