    Transmission trouble 88 SN 2001

Recently I ran into some transmission trouble on my 88 SN 2001. It felt like the prop was cavitating randomly, as the situation got worse I realized it was the transmission that was slipping. A local mechanic realized that there was some water in my tray fluid, so he sucked it out and replaced it. Now the boat runs great but it seams to hit a little harder going into reverse. Has anyone had this happen to them before? I ran on it two days before I replaced the fluid. How much permanent damage could I have done?

Any suggestions or advice would be great.

I have the same boat.... Sometimes gets that "slap" going in reverse. They are tough units. We use to have a ski centurion long ago that got a leak in the tranny, drained all the fluid out. Tranny was slipping pretty bad when we realized there was no more fluid! filled her back up and ran like a champ for years. I think you'll be all right, especially if it was only a little water in there!

just make sure you have fresh fluid in there and at the correct level, that can also make a difference. you should be fine then, like said these are tough pieces of equipment. Where do you live in Chicago? I'm in Niles. We also have an 88.
        I don\'t care.
