Will a Mobil 1 Filter hit the manifold?

I've noticed some of the oil filters that cross over from the Motorcraft FL-1A are about 1/4" inch longer. The Mobil 1 was about 3/8" longer by my guess.

Has anyone had a problem getting a longer filter on/off a 5.7 330 due to the filter hitting the ex manifold?

dont the manifolds go up from the ports on your boat? They do on mine and I could have one as long as I want as long as it doesnt hit the clamshell. Not sure if that is what you mean though?

If it's 3/8" longer then the Motorcraft filter you should be able to get it on, coming off may require you to tilt it to clear the threads. Just put it in a plastic bag when removing to catch any oil that may spill.

TRDon, guessing he has an Excalibur which has a remote filter mounted above the exh manifold, thread side up. Just enough space below the filter to remove it while keeping the filter straight up and down, with a standard size filter anyways.

Why are you using a Mobil 1 filter?

          HW,

I was thinking about asking that same question? Motorcraft has always been my filter of choice.

Mobil1 makes an excellent filter. Overpriced, IMHO, but at least its not a Fram! Wix/Napa and the Motorcraft filters are also excellent and more reasonably priced.

I believe that M1 will fit, though. Pretty sure my buddy ran one for a while on his Excal/196.

              Yep, exactly.

I knew there would be at least one that couldn't resist.

Quinner...you had willpower to start but then caved in with peer pressure.

I picked Mobil 1 as an example because it seemed extra long and I knew it would get "attention".

Thanks for the responses. I might try it just to see if I can make it work. I agree....getting it off will be harder than getting it on.
