    85 SN 2001 problem

Out last night and while wakeboarding, at 18 mph the motor was turning at about 3200 rpms, normally only about 2200. When I gave it more throttle, at about 4100 rpms, was only going 30mph. Motor sounded fine, no misses. Trans had plenty of fluid in it, did not look like it had water in it, smelled fine. A new rebuilt trans was installed only about 110 hrs ago. Prop, drive shaft looked ok. Any ideas?

Has to be the tranny slipping?

There could be a clog somewhere in the exhaust system bogging it down. How old are the exhaust hoses? Also, bad plugs and/or wires could cause this.

When you nail it out of the hole, does it leap forward or does it bog down there as well? May want to check the prop Keyway? Sounds like the engine is fine but you are losing something between the engine and the water.

Just to eliminate the easy ones, disengage the tranny by pushing in or pulling out that small knob on the throttle (the one you push when you wnat to rev up the engine without turning the prop) and then give it some throttle.

Not an exact science here, but is the tach registering high RPMS when you have barely given it any gas? Might be possible your tach has gone bad. Most likely this is not the case, but it never hurts to eliminate the obvious.

I did a tun up (new plugs, wires, cap, checked timing, changed oil) and it everything seems to be fine. Do not know what it was, but we rode all day yesterday with no probelms.

                Thanks for the help.
