    Fake-A-Lake

Does anyone have experience using a Fake-A-Lake with the TSC hull on a model year 2001 SN 196? I"m interested in knowing if the hull shape around the water intake is compatible with the rubber end of the fake-a-lake.

    thanks

    RE: Fake-A-Lake

My tsc 1 intake would not work with the fake a lake shape. The water intake grate was to long for my fake a lake.

I usually pull the intake hose off of the intake fitting, and then I have a piece of clear tubing (1" I think) that is about 6' long that I put into a 5 gallon bucket.

I know that when I had Adirondack Marine winterize the motor this fall they used a device the looked like a fake a lake (not sure what the brand was).

Have you looked into installing a FlushPro? I have one on my 210, works great! They don't cost much more than a Fake-A-Lake and should be a fairly easy install on a direct drive. Not sure if you need the 1" or 1.25" but here are links to both:

The one I had was an older model, maybe they have changed the design since? Mine was round aprox 5" -6" across and looked much like a toilet plunger. It worked for my MC, but not my Ski or Sport. Is your water intake round or elongated?

I've read about the flushpro and that looks like a good solution also. I was trying to not introduce more parts into the water intake system where air leaks could form someday.

Here is a picture of the bottom of the hull showing the intake. The boat is 300 miles from me so I can't take a better picture at the moment.

I do believe that the mainfolds are still fresh water cooled, and if your in salt then you would want to flush them to keep down the corrosion.

I have a Fake a Lake that I will sell if anyone wants it. I used it a few times years ago before I bought my first Flush-Pro, still in perfect shape. PM if interested.

I still think the Flush-Pro is the easiest option. Before it came out, I hated crawling under the boat and having to stick a plunger on the boat precisely. Now, I just take a garden hose to the motor box and spin it on. Its a no brainer and install took literally 5 minutes.

The Flush Pro is much easier to use then the Fake a Lake. Have never had a leak problem, just keep the hose clamps tight.

Ditto. Go with the FlushPro and save yourself the hassle of being a plumber every time you want to fire up your boat on the trailer. This is especially true considering that you are concerned about sealing a plunger around your I used a Fake-a-Lake for many years. Now that I have FlushPro, I wish I would have had it years ago.

I have a 1997 SN that I just use a regular plunger with an "x" cut in it that I put the hose thru. Have been using it for 4 years and never have a problem.

I'm interested in your plunger idea. Did you use a regular plumbing plunger with a wooden handle and if so how did you get the handle to be the correct length.

Was the rubber cup big enough to cover the entire intake area on the hull?

we used a piece of rubber matt, 1" thick
                              cut it square like 12 x 12
then cut a hole in it for the fake-a-lake
                              works good
