RE: Re: RE: ex330 oil
thanks. it's due for a 100hr service but my buddy is so **** lazy he won't drive to the marina and trailer it 20minutes. i'm just going to add a little and then force him to take it since his tower speakers dont work, outlets are all pushed through, all valves are messed up and fill while under way, etc. the interior is in good shape though.

RE: Re: RE: ex330 oil
FYI, I have not real feeling about this but while PCM says as noted above that synthetics may be used, PCM does not recommend them. This is direct from the PCM web site questions and answers.
"Q. Can I use synthetic oil in my PCM engine?
A: Synthetic oils are not recommended for use in PCM engines. Synthetic oils may offer advantages in cold temperature pumpability and high temperature oxidation-resistance. However, synthetic oils have not proven to provide operational or economic benefits over conventional petroleum based oils in PCM engines. Their use does not permit the extension of oil change intervals.

1. Key on their last words...their use does not extend oil change intervals. There are some benefits....primarily extended oil mileage. Their point here is that the majority of users will need to change their oil based on the "season" and not get their money's worth from the oil.
2. Second point (many are going to complain about this one and I don't care. You can post a hundred barks and these are my final words.) Synthetic oils have a common propensity to "swell" many incompatible elastomers and have caused problems with valve guide seals, shaft seals, etc. Those "wrong" elastomers are no longer used on the innerds. On ancillaries, though, they are still there. There are many instances of accessory hoses or electrical biz being blistered by dripped syn oil. Ask someone whose dripped syn oil on there A/C hose then had to pay 500 bucks for new hoses and R12 if they still use synthetic oil.
Their message is....just use the right dino oil and CHANGE IT ON SCHEDULE. There is no fuel savings or longevity benefit for this service.

AirTool,
Good point, I think the key is it cost more with no real benifit. All the test results I have seen are bearing test and high temp test that do not apply to PCM engines. And yes as you mention, a few disadvantages.2012 Team Ski Nautique ZR409
