    Transmission Fluid Leak

    I have what I believe to be a small transmission fluid leak on my '84 SN Velvet Drive transmission, but can't, for the life of me, figure out where it is coming from. However, at the end of the day when I pull the drain plug and all remaining water flows out, I am left with a red fluid that matches the color of my transmission fluid.

    I topped off the fluid last week and haven't noticed the fluid levels go down yet.

    Question(s):
    - Are there particular areas that are prone to leaking that are hard to get at (observe or feel)?

    - If the transmission is otherwise working fine and the fluids aren't dropping significantly, should I even worry about it? In other words, run it till the problem is obvious...

    - I have heard Pros and Cons to adding Transmission Fluid additives and (while we are at it) Engine Oil Additives to restore minor leaks, restore compression, etc.
    WHAT IS YOUR STANCE ON ADDITIVES?
    If you use additives (transmission or engine) what do you use?
    If you are opposed to additives, WHY?

    She is a NEW (Old) boat for me... (My First Boat, First Nautique)...
    I am going to worry about her until I get used to how she is going to perform over a period of time.

    Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Mine leaks, too. Mine's coming from shaft the shifter's hooked up to. I have to add fluid every 5 or 10 hours I guess. I would say as long as you keep it full, you're not doing any harm in running it. The part I hate the most is the big stain in my driveway under the drain plug hole...
