    Ballast Issues

I have a 2000 SAN, having issues with the factory ballast system. The main valve in the engine compartment seems to be frozen in the open position, not too worried about that but, my drivers side tank is filling on its own without the fill button pushed but the port side is not. With the valves behind the drivers seat which way is open and which way is closed? it has the open marked on the backing plate but no line on the knobs to say if you have turned it to closed or open. Is all the way in (anti clockwise) open or closed. Also how long should the tanks take to fill? I have run the pumps for 5 mins or more and cant seem to get the gauges to move from the empty position or have any overflow coming out any of the external vents once they are full if they are full.. The system was serviced before the boat was shipped to New Zealand and 1 of the fill pumps was replaced. Sorry for the long and multiple questions. Thanks for you help.

    RE: Ballast Issues

You need to replace your system with a modern one. Ballast puppies, bags, etc.

You will question your investment for about 2 seconds after you push the fill button.

    This is my install.

Yes that has also crossed my mind. I have already purchased pro x bow bag and rear v drive ballast sacs was thinking of using those aswell as the factory system. Thanks for the link. Will check it out.

I highly recommend installing a new style setup. Do a search for ballast systems and you will find many threads on it. If you do go that way search for ballast switch wiring. If it does not make any sense let me know. I feel like an expert now.

I had the same issues and plan to upgrade this spring. I pulled all the old plumbing and tanks out last fall before I winterized and stored the boat.

don't use the stock tanks, I did, in hindsight, not worth the effort.

Thanks everyone. I will limp through this summer with what i have and redo the system the winter. Was hoping for an easy fix so I could get through but by the sounds of things pull it out and start again is the best thing.
