    vertical play in rudder

    i have about 1/4 inch vertical play in my rudder. 79 bf nautique. is that normal or what is it missing? thanks

    Replace your rope packing. Over time it will compress and shrink. If you still have some play then you can use a brass or stainless steel washer for a shim. My dealer used to carry the shim.

      is it critical, or is it ok to run for a little while? there is no play at all horizontally.

        1/4" play is normal. Dont worry about it.
