95 Super Sport new ballast system questions

    Hey All,
I have read several of the posts about systems and I still have a few questions.
The current system I have is 2 vdrive sacks about 450# each and a 700# sack in ski locker. All are the ones with covers and they are really gross. I'm just gonna chuck them.

1)Will the Fly High Pro X 750# sacks fit on each side of the engine? (my boat is in storage outside of town and I haven't had a chance to measure)

2)What are better to use: Tsunami pumps from Fly High or Jabsco pumps?

3)I'm thinking 2 750# sacks either side of engine, 1 650# rear seat sack in ski locker, and 1 650# integrated bow sack. Is this too much? I haven't been able to get a big enough wake for surfing with my current system.

4)Is one thru hull port for filling and draining enough for the system?

    Thanks

RE: 95 Super Sport new ballast system questions

    Steve,

    1) Yes, these are what I have next to my engine.
    2) Jabsco. By far.
    3) There are guys who can explain surf setups more specifically than I, but I have about 500lbs pumped into whichever rear sac is applicable. 400 in my ski locker. 400 on the riders side, on the seat. 250-300 in the bow, and about 400 in lead on whichever side. My wake is ridiculous. On both sides.
    4) No. In my opinion, you want one for each rear sac pump. you could probably use just one for your locker and bow.
I also think you should put them under the swimdeck on the transom. At the very least, this makes it way
way easier to winterize your set up. Simply thread a short hose on the thru hull and stick in a bucket of
antifreeze. Judging by where you live, you want to be able to do this.

Good luck, and get ready for an enormous wave to slash on.

2)Why are the Jabsco ballast puppies better? They only pump @ 11g/m. Tsunami's pump @ 20g/m

Also I am thinking I'll need a second battery as I am also going to put in some tower speakers and an amp or 2, and I noticed Wake_fun had a switch installed for his 2 batteries. I'm wondering what's the purpose for that?

        2) trust me. Plus, you would need one in and one out. I have a Tsunami for my seat bag, they are awesome, but you want ballast puppies for your integrated system.

the batteries sit nicely on top of the ledge at the outside edge to the side of your rear seat. This gets them up and out of the way of the 750's. the purpose of a Perko switch is so you always have a good battery. If you are out all day pounding music while hanging out, you do not want to have a dead battery when you try to go home. Some guys have them setup with deep cycles for their stereos. Mine are just good car batteries. And I do not have a snazzy system regulating what does what.

          Thanks WakeSlayer
About the thu hulls wouldn't it be better to have one for the 2 750# sacks in the rear and one for the 650# ski locker + 650# bow sack?
That would be more even wouldn't it?
And it is the Jabsco ballast puppies I want?

Read my thread for pictures and explanations on what I did and why. Definately do one hole per pump. I know some guys are only using one with a manifold, but with my setup there is no chance that my pumps will cavitate against each other or fight for water when filling. I personally like them on the bottom of the boat that way I can fill and empty while underway.

Yah i like that idea of having one for each pump. I'm just thinking of 4 bags therefore 4 pumps, 4 thu hulls.
I just hate the idea of drilling holes in my boat. haha
How much were you guys paying for the Jabsco ballast puppies?

That is what I am going to do. That way you don't need any valves to direct the flow to either bag.

You still have to put ball valves between the thru hulls and the pumps though right?

I agree with one hole per pump. This is super important on the back sacs. That way, for surfing, you can drain one and fill the other at the same time.. And you can level the boat that way to account for an uneven passenger load. All I was saying is I think you could get away with one for the bow and locker. I do not have a bow sac, and i just leave my locker full all year. Never drain it. Not installed to my auto system.
As far as holes, I hate drilling them too. In fact, I don't, I make someone else do it. Haha. There is something to filling underway, I guess, but they are so fast it isn't really that much of a time savings. As far as draining, that is irrelevant. If anything transom thruhulls would drain faster without scoop intakes and a little water pressure underneath. All of these systems you will find threads on are similar, and all work really well. I am a little biased towards mine, but who isn't to their own install. One thing for sure, use Jabsco's. I think Pumpbiz is $250, pretty sure most of the places that had noticeably lower prices really don't have them in stock anyway...
Also, use ball valves on each intake line. Good tightly screened caps on the thruhulls, etc.

Yah Wakeslayer, I see why you were thinking one port for each back bag. I like the transom thru hull idea as well but unless you're going real slow you can't fill underway.
                      tough decision.

Instead of a perko switch, consider a combiner/isolater like the one from Blueseas, which works automatically. I just picked one up and will be installing shortly. However, if you want to save some money and go with a perko switch, I have a brand new one still in the clamshell that I could sell you.

Does anyone know the difference between Jabsco Bp 18220-1127 and 18220-1123? I called Jabsco and they said one is reversible and one is not. From everything I have read they are both reversible. Also does anyone have a 4 pump setup and if so how many pumps can you run at the same time?
