RPM REDUCTION SEE DEALER (limp mode)

Ok busted the boat out for the first time this year, changed the oil and oil filter. Put the boat in the water and it ran fine, I took a pull, my buddy Brandon (BP22) took a pull. We were pulling the boat out of the water and while I was waiting for him to get the truck and trailer I let the boat idle for about 15 minutes or so. I started to bump the boat in reverse and then forward, reverse and then forward just waiting. I then put it in gear and it went into this mode with the RPM REDUCTION SEE DEALER reading across one of my guages. I shut it off and restarted the boat it ran for about 100 yards and then did this again. After getting it on the trailer we left it in the water and I put it in gear without the prop turning. It ran fine for 5 minutes so we took it out of the water. I flushed it and it ran fine (we run in a brackish river) I have closed cooling. The boat never got above 148* and the water temp was 63* do you think my risers which are now 6 years old are starting to become clogged which put the boat in limp mode? My oil pressure was fine, it never got hot, tranny fluid is fine and I have a new impeller and water pump. What else could cause it to go into this mode. My dealer was closed today so I could not call them. Could going in reverse and forward and letting it idle cause a code to be thrown to the computer causing it to do this until it cleared out?

Any help would be appreciated, up until this weekend the boat has run flawless and been very reliable.

I'm sure Gramps will post later. He found the solution to his problem.

He has a 03 with the Excalibur.

Ok here is the scoop on what happened, at the end of the day Saturday we went for a joy ride up river. Towards the end of a long straight away we noticed the boat was sitting deeper than normal in the water. We shut it down opened the hatch and found a lower hose had come just loose enough to pump water in the bilge and into the risers. After running the bilge pump we got the hose back on (the hose clamp was finger tight at best) we fired it up and ran back to camp. On the way back the hose came loose again since I could not get it tight with the primitive tools I had with me. In the morning I busted out a socket set and got the hose and the clamp back on nice and snug. We dropped it back in the water and BP22 took another pull. The engine never got hotter than 168* when the water was going in the bilge and in the risers, the oil pressure read 65 PSI while under way and the engine ran at 148* while everything was hooked up like it should be. While waiting for BP22 to get my trailer I sat idling in the river, after a few minutes I decided to run it up river and back. When I took off it went into limp mode and said RPM REDUCTION see dealer. I turned it off, re started the motor and it ran fine for 100 yards and then went back to limp mode. When I put it on the trailer I put it in nuetral and fast advanced the motor up to 4000 rpm and it ran fine, I pulled it out of the water and while washing it down did this again and it ran fine again. Tuesday I called West Coast CC, California CC and M20 Marine, each mechanic in the shop said if you got water in the bilge and it was a decent amount the first thing they would check is the oil pressure sensor which could be bad and sending an error to the ECM. They all said on the newer boats they don't even put the sensor on the motor because of this happening enough to be a problem.
My engine never got hot, there is plenty of oil in it, the motor got enough water around it that I will try taking the sensor off, if this doesn't work then I will try the water temp sensor. If this doesn't work then I have to drag it home 3 hours for the dealer to check out. Either way it will come home this year since the only way to get the engine re-set is to have it hooked up to the diagnostic and put back in the right mode, otherwise I have to see RPM REDUCTION across my guage from time to time.

I have an 03' SANTE with the 330 Excaliber motor.

My 03 flashed low oil pressure see dealer at one time. Everything checked out to be normal, but it just kept flashing. I unplugged both batteries after a weekend of riding and the next time I took it out the warning never came back on. Might be worth a shot.

Well I went to the river this weekend to trouble shoot the boat after talking with a few dealers. I dropped the boat in, fired her up and ran up river about a 1/2 mile. She ran great, turned her off for 10 minutes, fired her back up and right into LIMP MODE again. Pulled the oil pressure sensor wire off, same thing, tried the water pressure sensor, same thing, disconnected the batteries and put em back on again limp mode. Unplugged every sensor and relay and still limp mode.
The thing that worried me this time is the red light in the middle of the dash never turned off above 1200 RPM. I put her on the trailer and brought her home, I will be putting her in the shop this Tuesday to let them deal with it before the season really gets going.

I will keep everyone posted on what they say is the problem once they dig into it.

Well it was confirmed by the dealer yesterday, it was the oil pressure switch that was faulty and throwing a code to the ECM. It's a 25$ part that just has 2 wires running to it, unscrew them install the new one and good as new. They still had to clear the code for me and I told them to go to the lake and run test it for an hour hard.

I got out on the cheap and I am pretty happy about it.

mine kept doing that and i ended up clipping the wire running to the oil pressure switch bc there were too many hoses and what not in the way to do it while on the water sweating face. runs like a champ now. in my 2005 it's on the starboard side of the engine, about mid way down and slightly closer to the back seat than the transom.

so the solution is clipping the wires running to the pressure switch?
