Water Filter Orientation on GT40 and Fuel Filter question

Two questions folks. First, every time I see the water filters advertised for sale, they always have the clear plastic part on the bottom in the picture. I took a look at mine yesterday while trying to figure out where to install a Perko Flush Pro, and mine has the clear plastic (and filter) pointed up (see picture). Is this correct, or is mine upside down? I can turn it the other way, but it won't go completely down. It would sit more at about a70 degree angle down and out.

On a separate, but somewhat related question, I could not find a fuel separator on my engine. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to look? Assuming I don't have one, should I bother adding one? My boat is used 100% in freshwater (if that matters at all).

RE: Water Filter Orientation on GT40 and Fuel Filter questio

On a GT40, the fuel filter is also the fuel/water separator. The fuel filter is in a canister called the PCM Fuel Control Cell and is located on the front (port side) of the engine. The fuel control cell also incorporates the high pressure fuel pump. The filter element should be replaced periodically (can't remember how often) and is a bear to do as the canister is usually tightened by gorillas.

The debris filter/trap will work as installed, but is not ideal. The screen is designed to act as a basket that can be cleaned when needed. With the unit upside down, any trapped debris will settle into the "head" (or down the feed hose) and therefore be hard/impossible to thouroughly clean. I would suggest you turn the unit over...even 70 degrees is better than 180 degrees.

Not sure about the orientation, in my SAN the clear section is facing down. Mount the perko flush between the water strainer and the thru hull.

Thank you gentlemen. You have confirmed my what I was thinking regarding the strainer and the mounting location for the flushpro.

on my 93 SN with the pro boss motor with water/fuel separator is mounted on the left front part in front of the motor under the couling. it is attached to the stringer just behind the ski pillion. I hope that helps. you can cut in to the water line either in front or behind the water intake screen (plastic piece in your picture.

Thank you. I will check my motor probably this weekend. I don't remember seeing anything like that there though. I may not have it on my engine. I believe that it is an option or upgrade.

Your GT40 will NOT have anything like what is shown in the above picture. The water/fuel seperator is part of the Fuel Control Cell which will be mounted on the front of your engine.

I will take some pictures of the front of my engine this weekend. Then, anyone willing who knows where it is can take the posted picture, circle the fuel control cell, and repost for my dumb arse.

Here are some pics of the FCC on my GT40, its hard to see given its location in boat, but should give you enough of an idea to find it. On a vdrive/SAN as you kneel on the rear seat and look into the engine the top of the FCC is in the near right corner.
