    Stringer Rebuild

What can I rebuild a 85% good stringer with? I opened up the floor and the port primary stringer is rotted a little bit. I removed the dead wood and I would like to know if there is any product to rebuild the wood before I coat it with fiberglass and resin.
I did read where I can replace with a block of wood and epoxy. Has anybody experienced this?

    RE: Stringer Rebuild

    adames,
Over on correctcraftfan.com there are currently about 4 stringer jobs going on now. There's also detailed photo threads showing the complete process of replacement. Take a look.

One thing I'd like to say is wood rot is like cancer. If you don't get it all out, it will continue to spread. Patch jobs with epoxy are simply "band aids". If not done correctly, you'll be chasing the rot forever. Even worst, bad stringers will cause gel cracking and bad engine/prop shaft alignment. Have you checked the alignment? You do not want to deal with a blown trans!!! Where did you read about the block of wood and epoxy? What year is the boat?

      RE: Stringer Rebuild

the boat is a 90 and the website that suggested stringer repair is boat builder central. They stock all the material for the repair. The stringers are not that bad, primaries are still in very good shape just a small section on the secondary is at 85%. The main stringers that the engine is mounted is fine. No misalignment.
      Thanks for the website....big help!
