    Engine hesitation

My '94 sport with the 5.8 throttle body EFI was seeming to miss/hesitate the first few times pulling someone up last weekend. It seemed to improve after awhile, but not completely go away. Any ideas where to start looking?

Aqua, how old (or "fresh") is your fuel? Had the boat been sitting for a while (winterized for example)? You could try to put fuel stabilizer on a fresh tank of gas. I don't remember the exact name but there is brand (BearingMan ???? or very similar) that comes in an aluminum (or steel) can and is supposed to be very good (I have just used it once).

Have you taken the boat out once more and if so, how did it run?

Aqua, have you had any luck getting to the bottom of your problem? I had the exact same problem this last weekend in my '94 Ski open bow, which also has a 5.8 EFI. I called Central Valley Marine in the bay area, CA, and they said some hesitation with the EFI engine is normal. I don't quite swallow that. I'm going to try changing the plugs (which have never been changed as far as I know) and maybe try a fuel additive and higher octane fuel. If that fails I'm going to try changing the fuel filter.

I am going back to the lake this weekend for a couple of weeks, loaded with a new fuel filter and some additive for the next tank with hopes it will solve things. By the way the plugs are already new, so I don't think that was it.

my '82 nautique was horrible at this at the beginning of the summer. I don't know exactly where it got fixed, because I had water in the gas tank and didn't know it and thought that it was a fuel problem (i guess technically it was a fuel problem), but after new distributor cap/rotor, fuel pump, fuel seperator/filter and a totally rebuilt carbeurator it runs like a champ- if it didn't I would be a bit concerned.

If you're trying to pull someone up and accelerate quickly, but it hesitates, I would venture a guess that your carb needs to be tuned up a bit. Maybe replace the accelerator pump or just go through and rebuild the whole thing.
