Motor Oil and Trans Fluid for GT-40

That surprises me about the rotella. I haven't looked at it since I switched from it over to the Valvoline, but the Rotella 15W40 was one of the specific oils mentioned back in the many threads on the subject around the end of 2007 or that had lowered its zinc levels.

They did lower them, but not by much. I talked to someone at Shell (staff chemist was his title). He said it went from 1400ppm to 1200ppm, but it would be sufficient for a flat tappet motor.

I realize I should have said similar zinc levels not the same in my previous posts.

40w40 rotella and FL1a motorcraft filters are both at walmart.

Yes. I run Valvoline Dex/Merc in my 1.23. Avoid the high mileage stuff- it has a bunch of extra additives that you dont want/need.
