    How to remove a GT40 from a 02 SANTE

Does anyone have any info on how to remove a GT40 from a 02 SANTE. Is there a published book or ? a person can get a hold of.

A list of events or things that have to be done would be nice. Do you have to remove the hard tanks or does the motor just lift straight out.

Any help would be appreicated. T hanks.

If you are worried about having to remove the hard tanks then perhaps this isn't the job for you?

Getting to this level should only take you about 20 minutes or so.

-Looks like off the v-drive is a standard axle type mounting flange for the prop shaft
    -Misc wiring
    -removal of exhaust hoses
-remove hose from intake on bottom of boat
    -unbolt motor mounts
    -throttle/trans cables

It actually looks quite simple once you have everything removed. I am sure if you had an over head hoist it wouldn't take any longer then a few hours.

Wiring is just a detachable harness. (unless it's different from a '99)
Don't forget fuel lines (feed and return)
Do you want the v-drive out too? If not, leave it and save yourself the time undoing the coupler. Don't forget the coolant lines.
Disconnect ground from starter as well as the hot.
How 'bout a little reverse action...

while you have the hard tanks out, totally replace it and put in a nice bag system.

I like the hard tanks, leaves valuable hard bottom storage when tanks are full or empty.

I prefer the room without them. To each his own. Could be the 02 was a little different than mine with respect to the pump system, not sure. Mine was terrible and I removed the entire system within days of getting her home.

                  DavidF,

You mentioned in another post that you are a skier in transition to some surfing. You will probably not be satisfied with just 200 punds of ballast to creat a good surf wake. You might find you self adding a bag on top of that tank, and if that is the case a big bag in place of the small tank might make sense.

Yep, just receive my Landlock yesterday. Can't wait to give it a try. I will probably have a ton of movable ballast in the rear that I have to feed every so often, so I might be ok.

if you remove the hard tanks you lose the guages though. i mean i have thought about it, but 2 jabsco pumps are about 500$ , then a pair of vdrive sacs or 750's, etc. if you aren't a wakeboarder i'd leave the hard tanks and you can always plumb in wedge sacs for less than 60$. anyway, you may want to contact a good dealer and ask them to email you a checklist, but at least one person on this site knows exactly what to do. i'm sure of it.

so what is going on? why would you have to remove the engine?

One very important thing to do as part of this job is to keep the engine/tranny/v-drive mounts all at the factory adjustments otherwise you'll have to do an engine alignment after re-installing the engine. Something that is not easy on a v-drive.

Engine alignment is the alignment between the v-drive output and the drive shaft flange, if this alignment is off you could have a vibration in the driveline.

I was told to leave the motor cradle on the engine when i pull it, so allignment is easier. What is the best way to mark everything?

You need to do an alignment no matter what. You are supposed to do one annually anyway, I believe. Just leaving them where they are does not prevent the need for doing an alignment. It is just an indicator. Check the alignment when you disconnect the engine from the trans and you will know if you are close. That is your mark, really. You want the coupler within .003 or better on opposite sides. Shoot for .000.
I do not know what would make leaving it on the cradle any easier. Something is going to be disconnected, and something is going to need to be aligned.
