    Transmission fluid leak

Hello, I just purchased my first Nautique. A 2004 SAN. I was excited until I took it out for the maiden voyage. Loaded boat up with 2 families, wakeboards, wakeskates, wakesurfer, life jackets, food, etc. Ready for a day on the lake. I ran it for about 30 minutes and then noticed some oil coming out of the bilge. I opened the engine compartment and it was full of red tranny fluid. What the heck? I took it into Nautiques fo Orlando and they have to pull the tranny to see sup. It didnt sound good tho. Any one have any idea what may be happening?
    Thanks!

      RE: Transmission fluid leak

I believe you have the PCM 1:1 power plus transmission connected to the Walters V Drive. Your transmission may have gone out causing seals to fail. How many hours are on the engine? I have seen that drive arrangement fail as early as 250 hours. Just replace the trans and move on. **** happens! Bad shaft alignment can cause early failures, but the dealer should check that. I personally have no real history with the PCM 1:1 transmission however that is what my present boat has. I know the older Borg Warrner transmissions were good for well over 1000 hours when maintained properly. Maybe some of the other members have a better idea of the expected life of the PCM 1:1. That is something I would like to know.

There are only 190 hours on the engine. We are hoping it just needs the seals replaced. Nautiques of Orlando are going to look at it this weekend.

the rear output seal failed on my '97 Sport (DD). It was a pretty simple job to pull the trans out, and fit a new seal. You may just have a pitted output shaft and a lip seal will take care of that. All in all, about 2-3 hrs work including realigning the engine.

No updates yet. Still waiting on Nautiques of Orlando to look at it. They have been swamped and said they need to pull out the V drive and tranny to see what is up. I am hoping to hear back from them today! I will keep you posted. Thanks

I got my 2004 SANTE back yesterday from Nautiques of Orlando and here is what happend: The rear main seal on the transmission was bad. They replaced the main seal, some o rings, pump cover and she is 100%, clean bill of health! The unfortunate thing is they had to pull the V drive and the tranny and pull the tranny to benchtest and it was 6 hours of labor. That is not cheap at all! Anyways, I guess it could have been a lot worse. I finally get to take the maiden voyage on her today! Cannot wait!

Glad to hear it was just some seals. Like you said it could have been worse... you could have been replacing the transmission. Anyway, let see some pics of the maiden voyage! Have fun, and good luck with no problems this time!

Glad to hear it wasn't the Walters! They have a tendency to self destruct and repairs can get into big $$$!!
