How do 02 SANTE Ballast pumps work?

I just bought a 02 SANTE and I was wondering how the ballast pumps work. I have three pumps that fill and empty. Each pump has a intake valve.

When you turn the dash pod switch on, does it activate all three? Isn't hard on a pump if you were to turn the water valve off and not allow water to be pumped.

I can think of several times, when you might only want one tank to fill and not the other two tanks ie surfing or?

Sorry I can't test them yet, I am still cleaning and waiting for the rain to stop.

Not sure how the '02 is different from the '03, but on mine, I have three fill pumps and three empty pumps. All three fill pumps have their own intake and ball valve and secondary valve that "was" controlled by a cable in a tube and some crappy knobs under the dash. They were all separate. The problem on these secondary valves (atleast on my years) was that they leak and are hard to operate. That's why I am replacing them with electric ones and have them open when the pumps run.

Yes, I wouldn't let my pumps run dry either.

I cut my system out the week I got my boat home. I really think the investment of a few bucks and a little time replacing with a Jabsco/Bag type system is well spent. You will be much happier.

I second what WS said. I am about to rip out my buddies factory stuff on a 99 super air and I have a buddy that is picking up a 01 next week that is next in line. They will both get jabsco systems with flyhigh bags.

I am probably wrong on this, but I think the 02 Correct Craft boats used a system than has two pumps for each tank. The pumps are connected "output to output", and the intake on one of the pumps went to the ballast tank, and the intake on the other pump went to the hull fitting. There was also a manual valve at the hull fitting you could shut off.
The fill pump on each tank would actually push water through the drain pump. and into the bottom of the tank. The drain pump would push water through the fill
pump, and out the bottom of the boat.
I also remember an air valve that hooked up to the vent on the top of the tank, and when the tank was full, you could shut off the air valve, and that would hold the water in the tank.
At least I think that is how they worked. I might have it confused with an earlier system.

I am currently in the process of a ballast overhaul. It is quite a bit of work and also quite expensive. I hope the $ I spent will make it all worth it. I will be doing a write up with pics soon.

                    new ballast pumps

If I was to add new pumps, then I would have to rewire the entire system. The jabsco pumps hate to run dry and with only one switch running all three pumps now, the pumps would burn up if I shut one or two valve offs and only wanted to fill onside or the other. .

Where is everyone putting/adding the switches on the 02.

You have to rewire the whole system anyway. Jabscos have their own switches. You have as many switches as pumps. I made a little aluminum plate and mounted it where the old ballast valve plate was mounted. Other guys have done more elaborate installs. They do say the pumps have "run dry protection" but I would not make a practice of it.

jjgag60 doesnt the 02 have 3 switches? All you have to do is fill the one up that you want. The way you are talking it sounds like you only have one switch. t My 99 has a fill and an empty so its all three filled or nothing. I just did some upgrades. Added a drain pump to my front sak. Still tied it in to the one switch. However I never surf so I just want it all full.

I only have one switch to fill and one to empty. My is exactly like yours, "all or nothing".
