well i went out today and did still have some high idle, but it goes away once in neutral for a second and the check engine light came on at the end of the day and i just checked the strainer and there were a few leaves in it so after i cleaned it everything was fine. i should have it diagnosed about the idle in a week.

used the boat again today. it still idles fast. it seems to get worse once the engine is warm too, but pulling back to neutral and letting it sit lets the rpms go down. do you think it's fine to keep using it a while longer? all the gauges read fine and no check engine light.

I think you'll be fine. As I mentioned earlier we had the same problem with our club boat for most of last summer and it ran fine. The only thing that helped us was removing the cowl and then the problem still happened, just not as frequently. ICV or TAC overheating was all we could figure. There was NO throttle cable interference.

is it at all possible that unhooking my batteries could fix this issue, at least temporarily, or since it's not dtc would that have absolutely no chance in helping me?

Never hurts to try but I do not think that is going to solve it.

so i put about 7 hours on my boat during the last week. one some days it would not idle high at all, and on some days it would idle high, then when in neutral rev high and slowly fall, then with one touch in reverse it goes back to normal for a while. i noticed in my port side locker at the stern of the boat the thin air house(slinky thing) has a gian tear in it near the ballast connection. would this cause the problem?

Was hoping a dealer or PCM would chime in on this topic, would really like to get this corrected on my boat if possible.

J2, do you think PP could be playing any role in this issue?

Gride, sounds like the blower vent hose is what is torn, most likely would not be related in any way.

But still good to fix that so you don't have gas fumes about.

im taking it out of the water this week sometime for an oil change. it won't be at a dealer, but im going to have him check all the hoses and tac/shroud. hopefully it will work. there has to be a fix or else it's a lemon engine

How old of a boat is it? A TAC is on the drive by wire systems, a TPS is used on the older mechanical systems as a IAC. TPS is a throttle position sensor, IAC is a Idle Air Control motor. If you have a mechanical system check to see if the perfect pass cable is hitting the shroud on the back of the engine towards the back of the boat.

                        NMS,

Not sure what year original posters boat is, mine is 05' Excal in a 206 - not DBW. What I have tried after the dealer was unable to correct:
                        - checked the cable & routing, no apparent issues
                        - raised the shroud using washers, no change
                        - removed the shroud, mostly corrected however still occurs just much less frequently.

As a side note, the throttle cable does not touch the shroud when installed it passes below it, with the shroud shimmed there was an even greater gap, about an inch or more. I have been told and read where the shroud needs to be cut out where the cable passes under/through the shroud edge however in the pic's of those cases the cable clearly would have been in contact with the shroud.

PS, check engine light is not coming on in my situation

I believe Gride has an 05 SANTE - Non DBW - nms1991 has a good point about the PP and the shroud
try taking the shroud off the motor and see if it cures the idle issue
I had a similar issue with my 05 206 - the shroud was interfering with the PP "servo Motor?"
after adjusting the shroud the issue with idle was resolved.

my boat is coming out sunday to go for oil change. the guy is very intelligent, but mostly works on outboards. i printed out the whole pcm manual for him, but will he be able to find the shroud?

                              AuMD,

Have been running "shroudless" for quite a while as that seems to be the only solution. Interesting with the Servo Motor, something I have not looked at, will check that out next. How did they adjust the shroud on your 206?

The shroud is the large plastic piece over the motor - I believe it has three thumb nuts holding it on.
